"CREATING A COMMUNITY OF STEELE"

Welcome

Steele Elementary School's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a volunteer organization of parents, teachers and others who work together to promote the education and well-being of all children and youth. We meet on the second Tuesday from Sept.-May at 6 PM in the auditorium.

We provide enrichment to students through school functions such as Book Fair, Field Day, Earth Day, Carnival, Popsicle Social, and Reflections Art Program. PTA committees promote the welfare of our children and include: Advocacy, Parent Education, Community Building, Response to Intervention and Bully Prevention.  In addition, the PTA coordinates with the school for many kids programs including Science Palooza and Reading is FUNdamental.

We also maintain this website, the school calendar, and publish the School Directory. The Washington Park Home Tour, Steele PTA’s main fundraiser, involves the greater Washington Park community. We organize additional activities and events throughout the year to build community within the school such as the Bike-A-Thon, Carnival/Palooza, Bookies Night, and Steele Dines Out.

Lastly, the Steele PTA organizes an Auction/Party and Pledge Drive to raise additional funds to help lower the teacher/student ratio in the classroom and/or to provide specialists in areas such as reading.

General Membership Meeting – Tuesday 2/9 6:00 Library

Guest Speaker:  Charles Elbot – Character Education

Charles Elbot served as a school principal for twenty-one years including at a K-8 Denver Public School, which in 2001 was honored as one of eight schools in the nation as a National School of Character. This school was also recognized for its excellence in student academic achievement. These accomplishments attracted educators from around the country who spent days observing “how” things were done at the school. In 2002, Charles founded the Office of Intentional School Culture and since then has shared school culture building with schools in Denver and beyond, including work with educators in New Zealand. Then in 2008, Corwin Press published his book, Building an Intentional School Culture by Elbot and Fulton. Charles graduated from Wesleyan University with a B.A. and earned an Ed.
